NEW KING of EDC Fixed Blade Knives? DAUNTLESS MANUFACTURING – THE HARRIS KNIFE (Robinson Reviews)

Here is a ROBINSON REVIEWS episode focusing on my new favorite EDC knife, THE HARRIS from DAUNTLESS MANUFACTURING!

@DauntlessMFG machines everything right HERE in the USA. Their knives are made with the best premium raw materials found in the world.

The Harris fixed blade knife is a high-performance everyday carry outdoor knife that holds an edge longer, stays razor sharp after prolonged use, and requires less sharpening.

The blade’s high-edge retention steel offers unmatched wear resistance & boasts great corrosion & rust resistance.

The HARRIS COLLECTION was designed by Army Veteran & good friend of Dauntless Manufacturing, Will Harris. The Harris knife balances the capabilities of a field dress knife and a general purpose camp knife.

Will Harris has a 25 year military career under his belt, plus over 30 years of hunting & backcountry experience that inspired The Harris Knife design.

Will wanted a knife that could keep up with his outdoor lifestyle; a knife that could do it all. The knife he imagined needed to be shaped, textured & sized for maximum maneuverability.

It also needed to be tough enough to handle the skinning and deboning of multiple animals, without the need for sharpening in between. The Harris is perhaps the perfect backcountry companion. A knife that is just as much agile as it is capable for anything from field dressing an elk, to technical camp tasks. It was truly designed as a general use skinning & camp knife.

The Harris blade material is made from black Nitride finished CPM 3v or Tumbled Magnacut steel as a slight upcharge. The handle can be configured with textured natural canvas micarta, or a variety of colors of G10 scales or Ultem. The knife is supplied with a Kydex sheath made entirely in house.

Scale Material options for the handle include Natural Canvas Micarta, Black G10, Blaze Orange G10, OD Green G10, Coyote Brown G10, Orange & Black Layered G10, & Coyote & Black Layered G10.

Specifications: Overall Length: 8.6″

Blade length: 3.65″

Blade Thickness: 3/16″

CPM-3V steel is probably as close to being a literal “super steel” as you can get. CPM-3V sports unbelievable toughness with seemingly no sacrifice of edge retention. At the cost of some corrosion resistance you can have one of the most robust, high-performance steels in the world.

CPM-MAGNACUT is Newer stainless steel with excellent toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. Heat treated to 62-64 HRc (which is Hardness of Steel according to the Rockwell Scale) with cryogenic treatment for maximum performance.

Dauntless makes knives that can withstand the harshest conditions, including their waterproof Kydex sheaths and durable composite handle materials which are all designed to handle the elements.

After using their knives in the field, it seems to me that Dauntless makes some of the best knife sheaths in the world. They use Kydex to produce slim, lightweight, water-proof sheaths that can be customized with a variety of different carry clip options. Leather is beautiful, & has a classic look and natural feel, but in almost every aspect is inferior to Kydex.

Dauntless scales are textured for ultimate control – Their scales are precision machined to enhance the ergonomics of the knife. Each scale is textured so the knife never slips in your hand. Dauntless Manufacturing uses an intricate diamond pattern on most of thier knife scales as well as a “peel-ply” texture on their flat G10 scales. Even with wet hands, you can still have a solid grip on their knife with the textured canvas micarta scales. All Because micarta becomes more grippy in wet conditions.

In addition to its many other features, The Harris knife is also fully customizable. The handle scales can be easily removed and replaced with whatever material you prefer, allowing you to create a truly unique and personalized knife that fits your style and needs perfectly.

Here’s a little backstory on knifemaker Matt Helm – Matt grew up in rural West Texas, loving the outdoors. He had an enthusiasm and appreciation for knives and tools from an early age. Matt always had an awareness of design and the fit and finish of a well-made tool or machine. In 2011, Matt started making knives & working on his craft, perfecting his equipment, materials, and processes.

Matt’s goal has always been to fashion knives that were relatively simple and lent themselves to daily carry with quality sheaths but evoked the aura of your Grandfather’s knife – an heirloom that gained in character with time and use.

More recently, Matt teamed up with Zach Thull and Chris Moss, the co-founders of Dauntless Manufacturing & they proposed turning one of Matt’s designs into a production model several years ago. The Dauntless Manufacturing experience in precise manufacturing and their keen eye for detail are remarkable on their own merit, but they also bring to the equation their own gift for knife making and design, combined with Matt’s impressive skills.
