Top 30 Creative and Unique Moments in Battle Rap – Part Two

Number 11 – Big Gerald

Although Aye Verb is an extremely polarizing battler – with some loving him and some hating him – it is generally agreed that Verb’s Big Gerald approach in his third round with Hitman Holla is one of the best moments in battle history

Besides being a great moment – it was also extremely unique. It came before and possibly inspired Lux’s third vs Calicoe – and before this I do not remember a personal that had ever been so deep or effective

__________

Number 12 –  Clips slogan

In his 2015 battle with Charlie Clips – Hollow Da Don again examplified why he is one of the most creative battle rappers in the game.

Instead of rapping, instead of personally attacking, instead of scheming – Hollow took an approach that had never been seen before in battle history – he copywrote the slogan of his opponent.

___________

Adding insult to injury – Hollow also revealed that the Charlie Clips merchandise that was being sold prior to the battle was actually lining his own pockets.

Number 13 –  Flossing

In probably the most simplistic example of a creative approach on this list – Yung Ill took the traditional DNA tooth joke and brought it to a whole nother level.

Number 14 – Walking Through the Crowd

Bill Collector has always been unorthodox – from his unique delivery to his general personality – there is nobody in battle rap quite like Bill.

During his matchup with Dot – Bill used a technique of moving through the crowd to maginify the impact of his rhymes… and frankly, i’ve never seen anything like that before.

__________

Number 15  – “God gonna strike his ass”

Nome3, June, 2013 –

Hollow Da Don vs Tsu Surf – Hollow is in the middle of his third round. He’s grilling Tsu Surf about various thing – challenging him to swear to God. In the middle of it all – he does this.

If you are looking at this moment retrospectively – it is easy to say that this moment was not creative… because we’ve all seen it. But I was there live, and I can tell you that everyone – including the Jersey representatives in the crowd – would have described that approach as creative. 3125

Number 16 – Professor Shine

URL’s Unfinished Business card – March, 2013 – DNA vs K Shine

In what would later become a legendary approach, K Shine took DNA’s name – and instead of doing a few name related lines – took that approach to the extreme

What makes this so unique to me is that K Shine did not simply dress up and play a role – but he included a large amount of wordplay, comparisons, and references relating to genetics and DNA.

Number 17 – The Diss

July 2014 – Total Slaughter – Loaded Lux vs Murda Mook –

Loaded Lux had, two battles ago, exposed his opponent Calicoe by putting up an instagram post. Murda Mook took note of this, and in this battle, he attempted to do the same to Lux –

KNOWING that Busta Rhymes would be in the building combined with that it was essentially an imitation of what Lux had done makes this moment extremely unique.

Number 18- Syncronization

2 on 2s in battle rap have only recently seen a huge surge in popularity – Shuffle T and Marlo however have been working together since early 2013.

With their signature sense of humor, wittiness and strong compatability – Shuffle T and Marlo took this unqiue approach to 2 on 2 battling

Number 19  – Hollow Kit Kat 909

May 9th, 2015 – Night of Main Events 5 – Charlie Clips vs Hollow Da Don

Hollow Da Don accuses Charlie Clips of being extremely predictable. Hollow supports his assertion by setting up a basic scenarios for the crowd… and asks their thoughts

—————————–

Hollow then distracts from those points with two seperate punchlines

—————————-

Hollow quietly returns to the original approach with an impressive display of confidence and involving the crowd – and does this

Number 20 –  Michael Jackson

July, 2014 – UDubb Anhillation – JC vs K Shine

It’s K Shine’s third round. Begining with a Michael Jackson scheme – K Shine goes beyond that. K Shine takes Michael Jackson’s song – “Smooth Criminal” – and transforms it for his own purposes

———————

What’s so remarkable about this to me, is that K Shine made his material, flow and delivery fit perfectly into this.

Number 21 – Swear to God

May 2015, NOME5 – Aye Verb vs K Shine

In his first round, Aye Verb is grilling K Shine on rumors regarding him and a transexual. As is sometimes common in rap battles – three examples Aye Verb challenges him to swear to God.

After K Shine swears to God – Aye Verb essentially pulls a prank on stage – and does this

Number 22 MMMM    22

Dont Flop April, 2015, 100 Bulletz vs Shuffle T

100 Bulletz is in his final round. In an imitation of Cass
